Houndshow 2014 Critique

First of all I should like to thank my helpful and efficient stewards, and the Association for their generous hospitality.

I was delighted with my winners, but would make the following comments.  So many of the exhibits lacked a good forehand.  The breed doesn’t want a keel like a dachshund but should have a reasonable forechest, lack of which results poor front movement.  There were some lovely small ears but also some rather large, thick and low set.  Light eyes were a problem. Generally tails were good and well set.  Most hounds were put down in great order, though some really could have done with better attention before going into the ring.

11months old. What a lovely well grown puppy this is.  Good forehand and hind construction with good depth of chest.  Loved his head and expression.  Well muscled and moved soundly. BP

2nd:BOND Mrs J Regalflight Rueben.  Another very promising youngster.  Preferred the length of my winner, though had he shown himself would have pressed hard for 1st.

3rd:HALL Mr D & Mrs A Wolfscastle Caradog

2nd:MORTON, Ms A & MORGAN Mr J Ch Cotherstone Shot And Steel
Both excellent animals in their own way.  When they came into the ring I thought it could be either or between them. Just felt the length of my winner was more correct,  better bend of stifle than 2nd.  Preferred 2nd head but overall, length of body and forehand construction won the day.
